The Doctor Who theme is one of the most recognisable pieces of television music ever written. It is also one of the most original in terms of its execution, having been created purely electronically by the BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop.
Mark Ayres’ excellent website explains the background to the creation of the original theme music and offers a history of the changes made to it down the years. The text is based on known facts, including his own research and cataloguing work at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and discussions with the people involved.
