You know it doesn’t like that name!

We were promised that Battlestar Galactica would have an emotional ending. And it did. Despite the years of doom and gloom, death and destruction we have what can almost be called a happy ending.

The fleet find Earth, our Earth. People die, people live and the union of Humans and Cylons go on to form what we know as the human race today. Most plot points are resolved and many questions are answered, although one major character’s origins are never revealed. In the end we are left to question whether the remaining plot points conclude in a scientific or spiritual realm.

I do feel the episode ended at the wrong point. It had the chance to end on a beautifully sad moment, at the point where Adama sits on a ridge having just buried his lover, the recently-passed Laura Roslin.

Instead we are shot 150,000 years into the future, to Times Square in New York. There we see the face of the series creator, Ron Moore, reading an article in the National Geographic on the subject of Mitochondrial Eve (the “mother” of the human race who turns out to be the child of a Human/Cylon union).  To those who know what he looks like, Ron Moore’s sudden appearance loses the show a bit of credibility; he might as well have been winking to the audience.

Overall it was a satisfying ending, even though you could’ve concluded the story with the line, “God did it!”

It was like Formula 1, except with overtaking!

Jenson ButtonQuick driver wins race in reliable car shocker! Does this mean that the coverage of the 2009 F1 season is not going to focus solely on Lewis Hamilton?

Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica Fllet

I’ve just watched the last ever episode of Battlestar Galactica. I’ll save comment until after Tuesday when it is broadcast proper on UK television.  In the meantime all I will say is that as far as final episodes go, you will not be left disappointed.

News Wipe

Charlie Brooker

Charlie Brooker’s new BBC4 TV series News Wipe aims to take a swipe at the turgid world of 24-hour news.  A spin-off of  his BBC4 show Screen Wipe, News Wipe will see Brooker reviewing the news as though it’s an entertainment show.

In his Guardian column he writes, “News Wipe is not aimed at politics junkies or (for want of a better term) Radio 4 listeners. It’s aimed at people like me: average types who feel like they’ve fallen behind and are a touch ashamed about it; people who feel the world has become a dark joke they don’t fully understand. And people who appreciate bum jokes and swearing. Not that it’s all bum jokes and swearing.

It’s on BBC4, every Wednesday at 10pm. I’ll be there.

Two Cups…

I have purchased two cups specifically for the purpose of drinking skinny lattes.

Latte Cups

My latte cups have already earned me much derision; I have already been called a ponce and a poof and my sexuality has been questioned. To ensure that I am put in my place and never think of doing anything like this again, please feel free to insult me in the comments link below.
